DB MARINE
For over 50 years DB Marine has been highly regarded as a leading service provider to marine and industrial markets for Engines, Drives & Parts supporting local and overseas markets.
DB Marine was founded in 1972 by David Barber MVO. Raised in Marlow on the banks of the River Thames, his affinity with the water was evident from his early years, progressing immediately from school to become an apprentice at the prestigious Andrews boat building company and then setting up DB Marine on the former site of Turks Boatyard in Cookham arguably the most prestigious stretch of the iconic River Thames.
David’s practical knowledge enabled him to become a highly skilled and sought after marine engineer, specialising in Volvo Penta products and providing servicing and support across Europe.
As DB Marine’s reputation grew, so too did the premises. Over the years, significant expansion & redevelopment of the site has taken place to support both the local Marina requirements as well as the Engine & Parts supply to the worldwide market.
How it all started
The endeavours and achievements of its founder David were also clear professionally and personally. Successfully competing in a numerous high-profile Offshore Powerboat competitions including completing the Round Britain Powerboat event, naturally being powered by Volvo Penta engines, supplied, installed, and serviced by DB Marine!
David’s success continued beyond marine business and boating! He is also privileged to represent the Royal Household as Swan Marker to Her Majesty The Queen since 1993 and continues this honour for King Charles III. A tradition whose origins can be traced back to the 12th Century that attracts worldwide publicity.

DB Marine continues to be an independent family business and after 50 years of dedication, David Barber’s legacy has now passed on to his son Dan Barber to be the dutiful owner of this successful enterprise (coincidentally no name change required..)
Dan shares his father’s passion, commitment, and ethos to continue DB Marine’s success for many generations to come.
